On Wednesday morning, a team of four traffic police officers was deployed to address an incident on the expressway passing through Cai Lay Town in Tien Giang Province, situated in the Mekong Delta region. The situation involved a four-seat car that had sustained damage while in motion. Consequently, the wrecked vehicle came to a halt in the center of the street, thereby creating potential traffic risks.
The officers parked their police car on the side of the street and stepped out to fulfill their duty.
At approximately 8 a.m., an unexpected collision occurred between an ambulance and a police car, resulting in significant damage to the rear window and back of the police vehicle, along with the front of the ambulance.
A male passenger aboard the ambulance sustained a minor injury while en route to Can Tho City. The ambulance had just completed its mission of transferring a patient to Cho Ray Hospital in HCMC before heading back to its destination.
As a result of the accident, there was a two-hour congestion on the expressway passing through Cai Lay.
In his statement to the police, the ambulance driver admitted feeling drowsy and sadly realized it was too late when he finally noticed the presence of a parked police car on the street.
The Trung Luong – My Thuan Expressway spans a length of 51 km and features a width of 16 m, accommodating four lanes for smooth traffic flow. However, it is important to note that this expressway does not include emergency lanes, and there are merely six emergency stops available in each direction.
The path intersects with HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway in Chau Thanh District of Tien Giang Province before traversing through five districts within the province, ultimately connecting to National Highway 30.
Since its inauguration in 2010, the HCMC-Trung Luong expressway has served as the sole transportation route connecting the delta region, which is inhabited by approximately 20 million individuals, to the rest of the country.
The travel time from HCMC to Tien Giang has been significantly reduced with the opening of Trung Luong – My Thuan. Commuters can now reach their destination in just one hour and 45 minutes, which is a remarkable improvement of 75 minutes.
