According to a spokesperson from Dung Quat Economic Zone in Quang Ngai Province, an explosion took place at approximately 2 p.m. in the cargo hold area of Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company. The incident occurred while a group of workers from the company was carrying out their duties.
Nine workers who sustained burn injuries were promptly transported to Quang Nam Central General Hospital, located in the Nui Thanh District, approximately 40 km away from the site of the unfortunate incident.
According to the hospital, four individuals sustained severe burns, while five others experienced minor burns.
Seven individuals have been relocated to a hospital in Da Nang as victims of the incident.
The management board of the Dung Quat Economic Zone has mandated that the company deliver a comprehensive report regarding the incident. Additionally, they have instructed the establishment of an inspection team to oversee construction sites and factories located within the economic zone.
Established in 2006, the Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Company was previously a part of the renowned Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group. The company's core expertise lies in ship construction and repair services.
The company underwent a transfer in 2010, being acquired by Petrovietnam, a state-owned oil and gas group.
