After a meeting on Monday, Tran Quang Lam, the director of HCMC Transport Department, expressed that multiple violations were discovered at Thanh Buoi. These infractions include neglecting traffic safety measures during operations and the failure to regularly update driver profiles and conduct necessary health checks.
According to Lam, the company's violations, which resulted in a serious traffic accident, will be penalized with a cash fine of VND90 million (US$3,660). In addition, their license will also be revoked as an extra measure of punishment. Lam mentioned that the specific details of the penalty will be disclosed at a later time.
Late last month, a tragic accident occurred on a highway in Dong Nai Province bordering HCMC, involving a Thanh Buoi bus, resulting in the unfortunate loss of five lives. Following thorough investigations, it was discovered that the driver of the Thanh Buoi bus was found to be exceeding the speed limit. Furthermore, it was revealed that his driving license had been previously revoked due to another incident of speeding prior to this devastating accident.
The inspection conducted by the transport department has uncovered additional violations that fall outside its jurisdiction. These infractions will be addressed by the HCMC Police and relevant agencies.
Thanh Buoi, founded in the year 2000, is a prominent transportation service provider operating in the southern region of Vietnam. With a workforce exceeding 1,300 individuals, the company efficiently caters to a significant volume of passengers along its routes connecting HCMC, the city of Can Tho in the Mekong Delta, and the Central Highlands city of Da Lat.
On Sunday, the company decided to temporarily halt its passenger transport service as the investigation continues.
