Vietnam's Party leader engages in phone conversation with French president.

Communist Party of Vietnam leader Nguyen Phu Trong had phone talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday.


This year marks the special occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, along with the remarkable milestone of a 10-year strategic partnership.

Trong commended the achievements of the French Government and President Macron in implementing comprehensive reforms across different socio-economic sectors. Their efforts have significantly bolstered France's development and reinforced its role in fortifying the European Union. Furthermore, these reforms have played a crucial part in addressing the challenges faced by Europe and other regions worldwide.

During this significant event, the Party leader expressed gratitude towards France for its unwavering support extended to Vietnam throughout recent years, even amidst the challenging times brought about by the Covid pandemic.

He communicated with the President of France regarding Vietnam's remarkable progress in various aspects, spanning over 35 years of revitalization and post-pandemic economic rebound. Additionally, he discussed the nation's aims for development by the mid-21st century, along with its foreign policy principles encompassing independence, self-sufficiency, peace, friendship, cooperation, and advancement. Furthermore, he highlighted Vietnam's commitment to diversifying and expanding its relations through multilateral approaches.

The significance of peace, friendship, cooperation, and adherence to the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter in resolving global matters, such as establishing peace and security in the East Sea, was emphasized by the General Secretary.

The Vietnamese leader confirmed that both parties have made active efforts to implement the provisions outlined in the Joint Statement, which was agreed upon by the leaders of Vietnam and France during his visit to the country in 2018.

He expressed that Vietnam places significant emphasis on the Vietnam-France strategic partnership and gives it utmost priority. Furthermore, Vietnam fully supports France's endeavors for peace, cooperation, and development in both the region and the world.

During their meeting, the two leaders engaged in a fruitful discussion about key strategies and actions aimed at expanding and enhancing the effectiveness of the bilateral cooperation.

Macron expressed his admiration for Vietnam's global influence and partnership with France, emphasizing the importance France places on it. He reiterated France's dedication to supporting Vietnam in achieving its strategic development objectives.

During their phone conversation, he emphasized that the opportunity to engage in talks was significant for the two leaders as they discussed the strategic plans that would shape bilateral relations over the next two decades.

The President of France has acknowledged the importance of enhancing political trust and fostering people-to-people exchange between our two nations. Additionally, there is a mutual agreement to bring about significant advancements in cooperation across various domains including national defense and security, economy, trade, investment, aviation, energy transition, science and technology, as well as culture.

He stated his approval of Vietnam's enhanced cooperation with the EU, which involves enforcing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), endorsing the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), and collaborating in the fishing industry. He hoped for closer collaboration between both nations within multilateral frameworks, particularly within the Francophone community. Both leaders pledged to direct their respective agencies to actively implement the agreed-upon initiatives. Trong also restated his invitation for the French President to visit Vietnam, and the latter gladly accepted.
